This seminar and workshop aims at bringing together experienced leaders from the world of children’s books, from India and abroad, with professionals here to enhance their skills, learn about the market, share knowledge, build networks and capacity in this important sector. In 1999, he moved to Ravensburger Verlag where he had overall responsibility for sales as from 2002. Joachim Kaufmann has been managing director at Carlsen Verlag in Hamburg since March 2006. Ralf Rebscher, Director Marketing & Sales, Loewe Children’s Books He has been the Director - Marketing & Sales at Loewe Children Books since 2006, before which he was Director Sales & Advertising at the same company. In 1996 Ralf Rebscher was sales manager in Lexikothek publishing house (Bertelsmann), then shifted to Xenos children books in 1997 in the same position and later in 2000 to Arena children books as sales manager. Sayoni Basu, Director Publishing - Scholastic India Sayoni Basu was educated in Calcutta and Oxford. She has been working in publishing since 1998 and has been working in children’s publishing since 2001, when she took charge of Puffin, the children’s imprint of Penguin Books. Subsequently, she joined Scholastic in 2005 as Director Publishing. Samir Patil, CEO & Founder of ACK Media Mr. Samir Patil (37) is the CEO & Founder of ACK Media, India’s leading entertainment and education company for young audiences. The company owns some of India's most-loved brands. Samir’s vision is to make ACK Media the leading Indian entertainment company for children of all ages. | This workshop aims to address specific concerns faced by librarians and teachers in today’s world. Libraries are at the heart of the campaign to get children reading, and to keep them reading. The focus will be on, among other things: • making the library into a child-f riendly space • presenting and promoting books to children • using books in the classroom • exploring your world through books • accessing & disseminating information • role of libraries in a world of electronic media Workshop Leaders : • BUCHZEIT, Vienna, Austria: Wolfgang Lanzinger, Stefanie Jörgl, Hermann Pitzer, Barbara Pitzer • OBE, Birmingham, UK: John Dolan BUCHZEIT, Vienna, Austria Buch.Zeit is an organisation that is commissioned and acts on behalf of the Federal State Government of Upper Austria and the State Education Authority of Upper Austria. The main objective of Buch.Zeit is the promotion of reading and speaking skills of children and teenagers from their birth up to secondary school. With more than 60 years of experience in promoting reading, reading techniques and interactive class room techniques etc. they also organize seminars and workshops for schools and provide material to librarians and consultancy services on reading techniques. John Dolan, OBE, Birmingham, UK is an independent consultant on library policy and strategy. Until 2008 he was the Head of Library Policy for England at the Museums Libraries and Archives Council. Prior to that he was Head of Birmingham Libraries one of the largest library services in the UK, including the Central Library 40 community libraries, mobile, home library and school library services and the prison library. For his last two years in Birmingham John was also responsible for the city’s early years and family learning services, the youth service and adult education. Most of John’s career has been in community librarianship in the urban areas of his home city of Manchester, followed by St. Helens and finally the multicultural, multifaith and youthful city of Birmingham. He has contributed to a number of national and overseas conferences on the future direction of libraries and their relevance to social, education, lifelong learning, cultural and economic need. Recently he has been working with the Max Mueller Bhavan on library developments in India and with the British Council in Bhopal. John has always had a strong commitment to children’s library services, “Library work with children and families is central to the public library purpose. Reading in early years is vital both for a happy childhood and as the foundation for skill and confidence as an adult. School libraries mirror the work of the classroom with the opportunity to exercise the skill of independent learning. This should be further extended by a partnership between school and the public library, working across sectoral boundaries to provide learning and creative opportunities for children and young people every day of the year.” |

He is also the author of two books that focus on educational access for disadvantaged children, and is currently Regional Director (Asia) of Room to Read.
